Jerome Guichard was born in Nancy, where he began to study oboe, before entering the National Conservatory of Music of Paris, in the class of Pierre Pierlot and in the class of Maurice Bourgue. He won first chamber and oboe awards unanimously in 1988 and 1989.
He distinguished himself in the international competitions of Geneva and Trieste (semi-final in 1988), Manchester in 1989 (second prize tied) and in Prague in 1991 (finalist-special prize). Winner of the Yamaha Foundation in 1991, he won the first grand prize of the Tokyo International Competition in the same year, a prize that had never been awarded in previous editions of this event.
Jérôme Guichard played with Jean-Pierre Rampal and Pierre Pierlot (Théâtre des Champs -Elysées in 1992), with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio-France (Salle Gaveau in 1993), with the Orchestra Sinfonica Simon Bolivar (1994 cycle of concerts from the Beracasa Foundation in Venezuela), with the Minsk Symphony Orchestra in 1993, 1995 and 1997, and the Orchester de Québec in 1997. He is regularly invited by the Orchester de l'Opéra de Lyon, the Orchester de l'Opéra Bastille in Paris, the Orchester National de France, and the WDR in Cologne: he was thus directed by Lorin Maazel, Pierre Boulez, Jeffrey Tate, Semyon Bychkof, Kent Nagano, Kurt Masur and Emmanuel Krivine, who named him principal oboe solo of the Orchester National de Lyon in 1997.
His involvement in contemporary music led him to work with composers such as Lutoslawski (1993), Mefano (1990 and 1993), Ligeti (in 2000) and Berio (2001), and with the ensembles 2E2M and TM +.
He performs in various festivals such as the Montpellier Radio France Festival, the September of the Orne, the Orlando Festival (Netherlands) and the season of the Château de Neubourg (Germany) ...
He participates in several international academies and teaches at the master classes of Tokyo, Minsk, Barcelona and many cities in France (Angers, Marseille, Paris ...).
He is also a tutor for the National Youth Orchestra of Catalonia (JONC) and the National Youth Orchestra of Spain (JOSE).
Professor at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris from 1989 to 1994, he holds the oboe class at the National Conservatory of Nancy from 1988 to 1998. He is currently a professor at the National Conservatory of Music of Lyon and invited to the LSO during the 2010/2011 season (with Antonio PAPPANO, Collin DAVIS, Valery Gergiev).
Jérôme Guichard is present at numerous European institutions such as the Hochschule für Musik and Theater München, the Royal Academy of London and Glasgow (2011/2012) and recently in Tokyo and the Oboe Festival in Beijing (2014).
